Ingredients

Scale
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 packet active dry yeast
  • 1 cup milk (warm)
  • 1/4 cup butter (melted)
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • Optional: 1 teaspoon cinnamon, 1/2 cup raisins or chopped nuts

Instructions

  • Warm the milk and dissolve the sugar in it, then sprinkle the yeast on top. Let it sit for 5-10 minutes until frothy.
  • Combine the flour and salt in a large bowl. Add the yeast mixture, melted butter, and eggs, then stir until a dough forms.
  • Knead the dough on a floured surface for 8-10 minutes, then place it in an oiled bowl to rise for 1-1.5 hours.
  • Punch down the dough, shape it into a loaf, and place it in a greased loaf pan. Let it rise for another 30 minutes.
  • Preheat the oven to 350°F. Bake for 30-40 minutes, or until golden brown and a toothpick comes out clean.
  • Allow to cool slightly before serving.

Notes

  • For a twist, add chocolate chips or dried fruit to the dough before baking. For a more tender loaf, try substituting some of the milk for buttermilk.
